Database Query Configuration is a guided step-by-step process for setting up database content for access by mobile end users. A corporate administrator uses the Mobile Dashboard's Agenda Environment (Section 1.3, “The Agenda Environment”) to answer a series of questions identifying the data to be accessed, retrieved and displayed.
Database Query Configuration consists of a sequence of steps that you must complete, as follows:
Name the database query (Section 6.2, “Name Database Query”) - providing a name for the database query and an (optional) description of the database query.
Select (or add) a database connection (Section 6.3, “Select Database Connection”).
Setup and configure the database query (Section 6.6, “Configure Database Query”) - entering a query to be used to retrieve the desired data from the database.
Configure query results (Section 6.7, “Configure Query Results”)- decide what data, returned from the database, to display to end users.
Configure output dimensions (Section 6.8, “Configure Output Dimensions”)- decide what dimensions to make fixed (i.e., to be selectable by mobile end users).
Review data sets (Section 6.9, “Review Data Sets”)- review data set produced by the query and decide if you want to subdivide the output into multiple data sets. This step is only included when needed, and may not be present.
Make the database query available as a task on end users' mobile devices. This step includes whether the task's output is able to be updated by other tasks or update other tasks' output, creating links (on the end user's mobile device) to the database query (e.g., on the main menu and/or as related tasks on other screens) (Section 9.1, “Create Links to Task”) and permitting designated users (or user groups) to run the query from their mobile devices (Section 9.17, “Permit Users to Run Task”).
Select end users who will have the database query task available to them on their mobile devices.
The configuration steps will appear as agenda items in the Agenda on the left-hand side on the page that you are viewing. As you go through these items, some of them may involve sub-steps, which will also appear as (nested) agenda items in the Agenda. All of the steps and sub-steps will need to be completed in order to successfully configure a database query.
The agenda item you are currently working on will appear on the right-hand side of the page.
Below the contents of the agenda item on the right are buttons that allow you to navigate between agenda items:
takes you to the previous agenda item.
takes you to the next agenda item.
completes the activity you are currently performing.
cancels the activity you are currently performing.
Each agenda item has its own instructions and its own help page. Follow the instructions to complete each step. Once you have completed an agenda item, you may press the button. Once enough steps have been completed, you will be able to complete the activity you are performing by pressing the button.
