5.19. Extract Row Headers

This page describes a part of the Mobile Dashboard's process for configuring reports. For an introduction to the report configuration process, see Section 5.1, “Introduction To Report Configuration”. For an example of how a report can be configured, see Section 5.28, “Report Configuration Example”. For a general introduction to the online help manual, see Section 1.1, “Mobile Dashboard Online Help Manual Overview”.

This screen enables you to tell the Mobile Dashboard how to distinguish the recently-defined dimensions. You need to use this step if either of the following two conditions applies:

  1. The columns you specified that contain the row headers also contain other values that are not headers. In this case, you will need to define how to identify the headers.

  2. There are multiple headers (e.g., hierarchical), in which case you need to define how to distinguish one header dimension from another.

If neither of these conditions applies, you can skip this screen (click on Next).

If one of these conditions does apply, continue on this screen. The first dimension you defined is shown in the Dimension field. Within the spreadsheet click on a cell that is representative of that dimension (e.g., if the dimension is "Department" then click on a department name in the spreadsheet). Attributes of the cell selected are displayed in the left table, i.e., the Font Size, Color, Underlined, Other Formatting (e.g., bold), Indent and Column. You can set any of these attributes (or several) as being the distinguishing feature(s) of the dimension. For example, if departments were all in Red, then you can Set Color to be Red; if departments are in Column A (and Teams are in Column B), you can Set the Column attribute; if Departments are Underlined, you can Set that attribute, etc.

If you have a second dimension to define, click on Next Dimension (once you've completed the first dimension). Select a cell containing an example of that dimension and Set the distinguishing attributes in a similar manner. Once you've defined all the row dimensions, the Next button will be available for you to proceed. If the Next button is grayed out, you have not completed defining the dimensions, so please review your attribute for the various dimension settings.
