5.16. Set Column Dimensions

This page describes a part of the Mobile Dashboard's process for configuring reports. For an introduction to the report configuration process, see Section 5.1, “Introduction To Report Configuration”. For an example of how a report can be configured, see Section 5.28, “Report Configuration Example”. For a general introduction to the online help manual, see Section 1.1, “Mobile Dashboard Online Help Manual Overview”.

You are now defining column headers. Your spreadsheet must contain column headers. For a simple spreadsheet, column headers might be located in Row 1, or in the top few rows. You'll specify where the headers are located by selecting rows in the spreadsheet. Simply click anywhere in the rows containing the column headers. The Rows field will populate with the rows you select. Also specify whether the headers are Hierarchical (e.g., Departments composed of Teams or Years composed of Months, or, more generally, Categories composed of Sub-categories) or Simple (one dimensional). Don't forget to provide names for the column dimensions, and specify whether they are simple or hierarchical (click on the appropriate radio button).

For each hierarchical dimension, you will need to specify if the dimension belongs to a parent dimension (i.e., is a subset of it) and whether all columns pertain to this particular dimension. So, for example, if your column headings had years subdivided into months, then the dimension Month might belong to the dimension Year. If you had totals for years as well as totals for individual months, then all columns might pertain to Year (year totals and month totals within the year), but not to Month (year totals do not pertain to Month). You can always try it one way or another and then come back to change it if you don't get the desired result. Be sure to select (check) the appropriate boxes for each dimension, and be sure to Add each dimension to the Dimensions table.
