5.18. Set Row Dimensions

This page describes a part of the Mobile Dashboard's process for configuring reports. For an introduction to the report configuration process, see Section 5.1, “Introduction To Report Configuration”. For an example of how a report can be configured, see Section 5.28, “Report Configuration Example”. For a general introduction to the online help manual, see Section 1.1, “Mobile Dashboard Online Help Manual Overview”.

You are now defining row headers. Your spreadsheet must contain row headers. For a simple spreadsheet, row headers might be in Column A, or in the first few columns. You'll specify where the headers are located by selecting columns in the spreadsheet. Simply click anywhere in the columns containing the row headers. The Columns field will populate with the rows you select. Also specify whether the headers are Hierarchical (e.g., Departments composed of Teams or Years composed of Months, or, more generally, Categories composed of Sub-categories) or Simple (one dimensional). Don't forget to provide names for the row dimensions, and specify whether they are simple or hierarchical (click on the appropriate radio button).

For each hierarchical dimension, you will need to specify if the dimension belongs to a parent dimension (i.e., is a subset of it) and whether all rows pertain to this particular dimension. So, for example, if your row headings had divisions subdivided into departments, then the dimension Department might belong to the dimension Division. If you had totals for divisions as well as totals for individual departments, then all rows might pertain to Division (division totals and department totals within the division), but not to Department (division totals do not pertain to departments). You can always try it one way or another and then come back to change it if you don't get the desired result. Be sure to select (check) the appropriate boxes for each dimension, and be sure to Add each dimension to the Dimensions table.
