XML Web Services Configuration is a guided step-by-step process for setting up Web Services for access by mobile end users. A corporate administrator uses the Mobile Dashboard's Agenda Environment (Section 1.3, “The Agenda Environment”) to answer a series of questions identifying the Web Services to be accessed, and the content to be retrieved and displayed.
XML Web Services Configuration consists of a sequence of steps that you must complete, as follows:
Select data service operation (Section 7.2, “Select Data Service Operation”) - uploading a new data service or selecting an operation from an already uploaded data service file.
Naming the task (to be made available to mobile users) that will be created representing the data services operation (Section 7.8, “Name Task”).
Configuring the data service's inputs (e.g., specifying the data source for those inputs) (Section 7.9, “Configure Data Service Inputs”).
Customizing the input form (the input display rules) (Section 7.13, “Customize Input Form”).
Customizing the output form (the output to be displayed on the mobile device.) (Section 7.14, “Customize Output Form”).
Create links for the task so mobile users can select the task on the main menu on the mobile device and/or as related tasks (on the context menus) of other tasks (Section 9.1, “Create Links to Task”).
Select end users and user groups who will have the task available to them on their mobile devices (Section 9.17, “Permit Users to Run Task”).
The configuration steps will appear as agenda items in the Agenda on the left-hand side on the page that you are viewing. As you go through these items, some of them may involve sub-steps, which will also appear as (nested) agenda items in the Agenda. All of the steps and sub-steps will need to be completed in order to successfully configure an XML Web Service.
The agenda item you are currently working on will appear on the right-hand side of the page.
Below the contents of the agenda item on the right are buttons that allow you to navigate between agenda items:
takes you to the previous agenda item.
takes you to the next agenda item.
completes the activity you are currently performing.
cancels the activity you are currently performing.
Each agenda item has its own instructions and its own help page. Follow the instructions to complete each step. Once you have completed an agenda item, you may press the button. Once enough steps have been completed, you will be able to complete the activity you are performing by pressing the button.
